New Memphis in March

I know this isn’t a music blog anymore, but it’s my blog so I can write whatever I want. Actually, if you search ‘dance music for old people’ my blog is still the second hit even though I changed the title a few months ago. All of that is to say, I will occasionally talk about music.

I found out this morning that Stars’ front man Torq Campbell will be releasing a third album with his side project, Memphis, this coming March. For any of my reader’s who don’t know me, Stars is my all time favourite band thanks in part to the amazing vocals of Amy Millan and Torq Campbell.

I was never a huge fan of the first Memphis record, but I loved A Little Place in the Wilderness, which was actually the first one I listened to, from the very first time I went on their website and heard the opening notes of the title track. To be brutally honest, the last Stars effort was a little lackluster, so I am really excited about the release of this Memphis record. Ever since seeing Memphis play at Zaphod’s, a dive bar in Ottawa named for Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide series, I felt like Campbell’s heart wasn’t in Stars in the same way anymore.

Here are some of my favourite tracks from A Little Place in the Wilderness, their sophomore release:

Incredibly Drunk on Whiskey
In the Cinema Alone

As mentioned before, their third album Here Comes a City will be available in March 2011. Until then, you can enjoy the two tracks they have released so far.

If you know any good web based flash players please let me know in the comments! Ideally, I would prefer to host songs at my domain (I’m finally using it for something!) and have people stream them on here rather than having to download them to listen.
